Surprise Visit

Yesterday at dinner time we got a call from Sean asking us if we had any plans this weekend. I kind of forget what day it was and I said something like we had just made dinner reservations for Friday night before going to an art opening. He asked tonight? No, Friday next weekend. So he asked about this weekend. No plans we said and he asked if they could come and stay at our house Sunday night after the Bills game. Of course.

It turns out that the Bills game this week is Sunday night at 8 pm and they weren't planning to go because of the time. The weather was also supposed to be bad which still is but just not as bad as predicted earlier in the week. I had just talked to Sean a couple of days ago about the Bills schedule and he didn't think they would be going to any games soon. Well, that changed. What he wanted to do was to come visit us with Andrew. Tony and Ashley would go to the game while Sean and Andrew would hang out with us.

The visit would be very short. They would drive over to Buffalo on Sunday morning and arrive at our house around 11 am. They would all hang out and have lunch and probably watch a football game at 1. Then Ashley and her father would head down to the ballpark to tailgate in the late afternoon or early evening. Sean and Andrew would stay with us. Maybe we would go to the zoo or something. Then have dinner. Andrew would get put to bed and then we would watch the game on TV with Sean.

Ashley and Tony would probably not stay for the entire game and be back at our house between 10 and 11. Sean and Ashley with Andrew would sleep in Kate's room and Tony in the kid's room but they can work it out. Then they plan to back on the road to drive home by 7 am. Maybe sooner... so they say. Like I said, a short visit.

So today we had to do some fast clean up. Not that the house was dirty but we did need to mop floors, vacuum rugs and dust furniture. Change bed sheets too. Then of course we had to kid proof a lot of stuff because Andrew likes to get into things. One of the main things I did is illustrated by the photo here. When the kids come I need to remove that large piece of pottery from in front of the fireplace and to clear out the candle holder insert. Then I bring down some toys including the castle that was Sean's when he was a little kid. We are very excited to see Andrew again. He is such a wonderful little boy and we miss him. It's going to be so wonderful when his new little sister comes next month.

Tomorrow will be a whirlwind of activity and then it will be quickly over. We talked to Katie today and she verified that they will be coming to our house and staying with us Thanksgiving weekend. She just has to clarify the exact dates for coming and going. Well, at least that is not a last minute surprise visit.

Better get to bed early tonight.
