We just had a rainy time in Philadelphia. A real rainy time. Like nothing we've ever experienced on a visit there especially in the Fall. We usually go down to Philly in October every year. We always did that when our kids were in school because we would go down for the Columbus Day weekend. October always seemed to be perfect weather in Philly.
This year we went down about three weeks earlier than usual because of our brother-in-law Scott's memorial service that we needed to attend. It was also a good time for Kate because part of the time Todd would be out of town for a conference so it was helpful to the family for us to be there during the weekend that he was away.
There was a tropical storm coming up the East Coast during the week we were in town that had a big affect on the weather for about the first seven days. It rained constantly for most of the time. There were a few periods where it stopped raining for a while but it was still always very cloudy and chilly. It was in the 50's and low 60's most of the time. Back in Buffalo it was warm and sunny the whole time.
The hard part about the weather this time was that we really couldn't do anything with the kids outdoors. We were stuck in the house most of the time. We couldn't just go out to a playground anytime or to the many options we usually have to entertain the kids. Fortunately some of the days Henry and Clara were at school so they got out of the house that way. Usually we would walk them over to school or the way back but because of the weather Katie mostly just got in the car and took them to or back while we stayed home with Violet.
We did have a great time with the kids and we enjoyed our visit very much but it would have been a lot better if the weather had cooperated which it finally did the last couple of days. That last day, the Sunday before we went home, we went to the neighborhood street fair. I wrote about the Mt Airy Village Fair here and we really had a great time. The weather was perfect too.
Monday was a good weather day too and we had a nice drive home. When we got home we heard about all the great weather in town the entire past week but bad weather was coming in the next few days. Oh well.
