Long Bright River

Long Bright River by Liz Moore, 2020

Another fast read... almost two weeks. It would have been quicker but I was reading a couple of other books during that same time period.

The author lives in Philadelphia and teaches in the M.F.A. program in creative writing at Temple University. She has written a very intense novel about two sisters in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. One is a homeless drug addict and the other is a police officer assigned to that same neighborhood. It's a very powerful story of addiction and not easy to read.

The book is very well written crime thriller with lots of twists and turns in the plot. It is also an interesting story of the neighborhood and the city. Some of the story takes place down the street from the high school I attended nearby.

I had read some articles recently about the drug problems in the Kensington section of Philly due to the opioid crises. It has been described as one of the worse areas in the country for drug use.
