60 Albums 1995

60 albums from 1995. This was another year that a bunch of great albums didn't quickly rise to the top of my list.  There were plenty of good albums but I wasn't really blown away by much in 1995. I went with Chris Isaak because that album got a lot of play from me immediately and has continued through the years. A few others here like the Emmylou Harris and the Wondermints grew on me intensely over the years.

For me it was overall a pretty good year for folky and Americana stuff and also for power pop and Brit pop. There wasn't a whole lot of challenging releases that made a big impression on me and made it into my collection.

    60 Albums 1994

60 favorite albums from my collection for 1994. This was a little more difficult list. It really wasn't a great year for music in my opinion. I think that most of the top ten are interchangeable. Nothing really stood out. Many of these albums I came to like more over the years but there wasn't a whole lot here I ran out and got when they were released.

I was working at the downtown public library and had daily access to their fabulous CD collection. I was constantly bringing home new music. I was also making lots of mixes during this time. I was filling in my collection of albums I'd missed over the years as many of the albums on this list were I actually added in subsequent years.

This was also the time when I started learning more about music on the Internet for the first time. Of course the world wide web wasn't really happening yet but I was on the music discussion boards that were popping up around the net and in particular on the Buffalo Free-Net.

      Todd Snider - Agnostic Hymns

Just listened to Todd Snider's new album Agnostic Hymns and Stoner Fables, 2012. This is another delight from this interesting and entertaining singer songwriter. "We still need religion to keep the poor from killing the rich". Todd Snider sings this line on the opening song of his new album. Lots of his usual funny leftist folkie humor.

Becky and I saw Todd Snider perform at the Tralf last April. It was a wonderful show. He was quite the character on stage... and barefoot too. All of his albums are good and have that strange alternative folkie attitude.

I have a few Todd Snider albums in my collection including:

      • Songs for the Daily Planet, 1994
      • Step Right Up, 1996
      • Viva Satellite, 1998
      • East Nashville Skyline, 2004
      • That Was Me: The Best of Todd Snider: 1994-1998, 2005
      • The Devil You Know, 2006
      • Peace, Love and Anarchy, 2007
      • Peace Queer, 2008
      • The Excitement Plan, 2009
      • Todd Snider Live - The Storyteller, 2011
      • Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables, 2012
