Book Challenge - Biographies. Buried Alive: A Biography of Janis Joplin by Myra Friedman, 1973. I read this back in 1975. I had seen Janis perform 4 times before she died so young and I was excited to read this very personal book about her life and music back then while she was still fresh in my mind and heart. The four times I saw her in concert. At the Electric Factory in Philly with Big Brother & The Holding Company in 1968 and then a few months later at the Quaker City Rock Festival along with The Chambers Brothers, Moby Grape, Buddy Guy, and Vanilla Fudge. Then in 1969 at the Atlantic City Pop Festival with her Kozmic Blues Band along with three days of bands. Then finally at a Ravinia Park outdoor concert in Chicago a few months before she died in 1970.
When listening to her music I've often thought of what she could have accomplished over the last 50 years and I was thankful for having the chance to see her perform during her brief life as a star.
I recently read another biography of her published in 2020. Janis.
