We've had a lot of ice this winter. Not a lot of snow... but that ice. Most of the time we've been getting about an inch or two of snow and then it just freezes. At our house we have had an especially large amount of ice on the ground because our gutters were not cleaned before the snow started falling and the result has been clogged gutters with lots of ice forming on the roof and on the walkway under the gutters.
I've been using a lot of salt and went through our usual container very fast. The other day I went out to get some more salt. I was surprised to find that the Value Home store I usually go to was closed, shut down. So I continued up Elmwood to the Home Depot which had a lot of bags of salt but they were the rock salt in 50 lb bags. People were buying up the salt like crazy. I ended up getting two bags of the cheaper rock salt because I knew I would be using a lot of it.
I got a small bucket with a hand shovel and put the salt in it for easy use and stored it in the hallway. Already I've filled it up innumerable times.
It really has made a difference and I know I'm going to be using a lot of this the rest of the winter as they keep calling for more wintry mix snow storms which means more ice.
