Danish String Quartet

Last night Becky and I saw our first concert the Buffalo Chamber Music Society performed by the Danish String Quartet. It's nice to have season tickets again. The last time we had season tickets for the chamber music series was about fifteen years ago. We love seeing concerts in the Mary Seaton Room of Kleinhans Music Hall. It is a very intimate music experience.

The show last night was fantastic. They played an incredible wide range of chamber music and much of it had a folk music feel. The musicians were amazing. They started off with Purcell, then Haydn and ended the first set with some very intense Shostakovich. After the break they played an assortment of music pieces based on the folk music of Ireland, Scandinavia and the Faroe Islands.

The musicians were also very entertaining in their intro to the music. We also saw them for a little while before the show doing an artists talk. This quartet has been together for twenty years and has known each other as children and teenagers. They were so very Danish but spoke English incredibly well too. The program notes about this concert were particularly well written and informative.
