Heavy Pickup - Early

This is heavy trash pickup week and yesterday evening I put several things on the curb in front of the house that included three of Becky's chairs from her old art studio, the broken hose reel cart with a still good garden hose on it and a very old large light fixture that has been in the basement for decades. We also have a large number of very big wood painting stretchers which I hadn't put out yet. We are hoping some artist friends may pick them up. Several neighbors had large piles on their curbs too.

This morning we were very surprised when the city trash trucks came down the street and loaded all of our stuff onto a truck and took it all away. We really expected some trash pickers to get to our pile before the city did and we really wanted someone to get those chairs who might need them. Two of the three were in good working order and just had some paint stains on them. The hose reel seemed like it would be useful for someone and the light fixture had a significant amount of heavy metal that a trash picker would want.

So we were a little sad that the stuff did not get to the people whom we thought would take it. Usually it takes a couple of days for the city to get around and pick it up which gives trash pickers time to get there. Not this time.

I've been down to the trash depot a few times and know that there is a lot of sorting that goes on there and perhaps those chairs will still get some use from someone somewhere which is what we had hoped for. In the meantime we still have a lot of wood to put on the curb even though we are hoping someone finds some use for those stretchers.

Today we put out those stretchers and already quite a few of them have been picked up.
