Homegoing

Homegoing - Yaa Gyasi, 2016

Finished reading in October 2020

I was stunned by this book. Perhaps it's the times we are living in right now but this was probably the most gut-wrenching powerful novel I've read in years. This beautifully written and terribly sad book is a great American novel. Two hundred fifty years and multiple generations tell the story of an unforgettable family and their experiences of the slave trade, colonialism, living in racist America. The book is ambitious, well researched and emotional.

I'm looking forward to reading her new novel.
