Family Search

A little over a year ago last February I was looking at some family history sites and doing a little looking around and exploring the various options for doing genealogical research. I was looking at several sites and services such as FindMyPast, MyHeritage, Ancestry and Family Search among others. Family Search, the service from the Mormon Church, was free and I created an account. I did a very basic family tree. I really wanted to delve deeper and I knew I really needed a better pay service but I was not ready at that time to make the commitment which I recently did with Ancestry.

I plan to work with Ancestry for several months. I did a six month subscription but I have also decided to use the free Family Search site also and migrate my family tree there. This site has a robust collection of interactive family tools to share your family history. There are options to upload family photos and to share memory stories in private family groups.

I will set up two family trees and groups. One for the Emery - Morris Family Tree and another one for the Koenig - Catanzaro Family Tree.

I will share this information with both my family and Beck's family.

The first thing I did today was download the standard family tree gedcom data file format to my hard drive from Ancestry. Then I uploaded it into FamilySearch to get me started. Now I have a clearer focus of what I am doing and now have the ability to share this with other people who would only need to sign up for an account to participate in this family history project.
