I read the first book in the Murderbot Diaries series, All Systems Red by author Martha Wells, in August 2018. I enjoyed it very much and started reading all of the books in the series as they were published.
The books are about an artificial construct bot designed as a powerful security unit employed by corporations that appear to run the galaxy. This bot has found a way to override the governor module and has enabled itself to develop independence and the ability to care for people including humans and other artificial intelligences. She even learns to watch and love soap operas but is uncomfortable interacting with humans. The unit calls itself Murderbot and has always seemed to be a she to me.
The books are the adventures of Murderbot as she moves through the galaxy trying to discover things about her past as a heartless killing machine and protecting humans and other bots against the rampaging evil corporations that dominate these worlds. All of the books have been fast reads that are hard to put down. As the series progresses we get to know more about Murderbot's development as a character and the worlds that Martha Wells has so successfully created.
I've enjoyed all of the books and look forward to new ones. The first couple of them were particular good because they were introducing me to this wonderfully crazy character and these strange worlds that people were exploring despite being dangerously corporate dominated. The newer books were so good because now I was so much more familiar with the characters and the worlds.
