World War II was our parent's war. The so called Greatest Generation came out of the Great Depression a strong people and then entered the hell of another world war. Ten years after the war ended I was watching the war every day on TV for the rest of my childhood. Our living room floor was full of WWII toy soldiers and tanks. D-Day always held a special place in that war as the beginning of the end but also a place of great sacrifice. Lots of movies too.
reflections, ruminations, ramblings and rants on music, books, beer, politics, technology, media, family, etc, etc. from a retired old man, music collector, librarian, political observer, technology geek, veteran, history buff, beer enthusiast, sci-fi fan, obsessive mixtaper and former DJ. I've also gathered writings from the past several years posted in various social media platforms. This blog has become an editing tool for my writings and everything here is a work in progress.

A D-Day Remembrance
D-Day was June 6, 1944. Jim Koenig, Becky’s father and my father-in-law, was seriously wounded on Utah Beach during the Normandy Invasion. He spent many months in England recovering from his head injuries and was eventually sent to a hotel in Lake Placid, NY used by the military for more recovery time. It was his experience there in the mountains that eventually made the Adirondacks the vacation choice for his family for many years and ours too. Looking forward to spending some family time there next month.
