The kids were supposed to be with us in Buffalo this week. Katie, Todd, Henry, Clara and Violet. But they got Covid and won't be here. It breaks our hearts. We were so looking forward to spending a week with them. We had a wonderful time with them on vacation in the Adirondacks this summer and were excited to have another week with them now. They can't come and we really don't want them coming here to infect us too.
Apparently Todd contracted the virus while at an academic conference in Boston. He was gone for five days which was difficult enough for Katie home alone with the kids but then he came back and immediately became sick. A few days later Katie got sick and tested positive for Covid. Then it was Clara and Henry's turn to get sick. On top of that they both got a bad rash too that may or may not have been related to Covid.
So now we are putting off our visit to Philly to some time in September when we can safely see the family. In the meantime we will try to get over to see Sean and Ashley and Andrew. We are also getting another Covid booster shot scheduled. There has been an upsurge in Covid lately in our area. Last week our neighbors and their family all contacted Covid while on vacation in the Adirondacks. Another new normal. We will be treating Covid like the flu and getting regularly annual vaccination shots.
