Random Album Effect - Acid

I wanted to listen to Ray Barretto's Acid from 1968. I've always loved this great blend of Latin jazz, salsa, funk and soul. A Deeper Shade of Soul is one of my favorite boogaloo songs from the period.

The next album in the set was The Ramone's wonderful sixties music cover album Acid Eaters released in 1993. Ray Barretto's last salsa song was followed by the opening killer track cover of the Amboy Duke's Journey to the Center of the Mind which set the stage for a great set of psychedelic and garage rock classics.

Then some really hard core psychedelic music came on. Acid Guru Pond is a collaboration album released in 2016 by Bardo Pond, Guru Guru and Acid Mothers Temple. This was some seriously intense hypnotic space drone music that flowed interestingly from the Ramones cover of a Beach Boys song. I've always like Bardo Pond going back to the early 90's and have ten of their albums. I'm not familiar with Guru Guru before hearing this album. I've heard a couple of albums from Acid Mothers Temple and found them almost unlistenable and could not really imagine a time when I would want to play their albums.

After the drone of Acid Guru Pond the pop sounds of Jenny Lewis was quite pleasing. Acid Tongue released in 2008 was her second solo album after her years with Rilo Kiley. The album is a singer- songwriter exercise right out of Laurel Canyon and it works well. She writes and sings wonderful songs.

Then suddenly I was listening to some legendary Chicago house music thumping through the speakers. Phuture's Acid Tracks from 1987 which is basically a single with three long tracks. Sounded great but dated but of course this is the stuff that was later imitated throughout the nineties.

Finished off the set with Sun Dial's Acid Yantra from 1995. Neo-psychedelia at its best. I love Sun Dial and everything they have done. Sun Dial began releasing albums in 1990 and are still producing music. Acid Yantra was there fourth album. A nice way to end this evenings of music.
