Last night winter was coming and today it is definitely here although we certainly do not have it as bad as other parts of Buffalo and Western New York. We had a little snow activity in our neighborhood and some surrounding areas had some significant snow accumulation especially in the Southtowns.
Today was had several inches on the ground and lots of serious high winds which is the scariest part of the weather right now. We still are way behind on snow totals for the year and today is still not very much but we don't like the blowing wind. So I shoveled a few inches of snow today but it still was not enough to get the snowblower out. It stopped in the afternoon but there was a lot of snow predicted for overnight.
Becky and I have both received at least a dozen alerts on our phones since yesterday with warnings about the weather conditions and driving ban in Erie County. The messages are from the New York State Office of Emergency Management and includes both text and a vocal message after a loud beeping sound. This occurs even if your phone is silenced. Never had anything quite like this before. Not even during that really bad blizzard last year during the Christmas holidays. It was weird that it wasn't snowing here at the time but there was a lot of heavy snow falling throughout the area.
The Bills playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers was originally scheduled for this afternoon but was rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 4:30 because of the weather. The Bills organization has been calling for volunteers to come down to the stadium to shovel out the seats.
We watched an episode of True Detective before going to bed and could here the wind blowing outside but at least it wasn't snowing... yet.
