Here is another in my series about albums in my collection when I saw the artist perform the music from the album around the time it was released. The first of several times we saw U2 was at Uncle Sam's in Cheektowaga in May 1981 while they were touring the Boy album. The opening act was the local band Pauline & The Perils. This was my first time at Uncle Sam's which was mostly a hard rock club in the burbs. We were surprised at how young the members of U2 were. They really did look like a bunch of teenagers on the stage... especially Bono.
They played and sounded great and it was a very good show. Some of the staff at the record store Play It Again Sam's convinced us to go check out this band after we bought the Boy album. It was definitely worth it. One funny thing was that the band really didn't have enough material for a show of their craft and abilities. They ran out of songs and had to play several songs over again during their encore.
We would see U2 later in 1981 at Uncle Sam's again on their October Tour and then in 1983 at Shea's Buffalo on their War Tour.
