Daisy Jones & The Six - The Novel

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid, 2019.

I had seen some promotion for this book and television series recently and it looked interesting especially since I had just finished reading two biographies of Sandy Denny. The novel tells a similar story of a young woman starting out in the music industry in the late 1960's and 1970's. In this case the singer finds success in Los Angeles during the mid 1970's before crashing and burning. It's also about a rock band from Pittsburgh that comes to LA to become stars. It works.

I downloaded the e-book in early May and finished it a week later. I enjoyed it very much. The book is written like an oral history based on interview transcripts of one of the best bands of the 1970's from a later perspective. The characters are very well developed and very fascinating. It is also an interesting portrayal of the music industry of the time and the songwriting and recording processes. The author really does capture the spirit of the 1970's music scene and pop culture.
