Yesterday I had my hernia surgery and all went well. Got to the hospital before 6 am and was home recovering by 12:30. They originally planned to do a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery but after an extensive discussion of my history of brain aneurysms they decided not to risk the potential pressure on my blood vessels and my existing aneurysms so they opened me up for the traditional surgery. The surgeon found a "very large" hernia which he fixed. Yesterday I slept all afternoon and a lot of today. The drugs are good and hopefully the pain will be gone soon.
I wrote up some info on my surgery and posted it to FB.
"Yesterday I had my hernia surgery and all went well. Got to the hospital before 6 am and was home recovering by 12:30. The past few months have been very difficult, challenging and... painful. I'm really looking forward to getting things back to normal and Becky has been a wonderful help to me throughout this experience. Probably the hardest thing about my situation was not being able to travel and visit our grandchildren as planned. Looking forward to the Adirondacks next month. Not counting a recent cataract procedure, this was my first surgery since my brain aneurysm clipping 36 years ago.

The staff at Buffalo General Medical Center were wonderful and amazingly helpful. I also spent a lot of time there over the past few weeks preparing for the surgery especially with members of the anesthesiology staff because of past issues with the related drugs and gas and a family history of malignant hyperthermia allergy which apparently is very rare but was the "buzz" all over the hospital yesterday among the surgery staff. A teachable moment at a teaching hospital."
