We had to make a very touch decision concerning driving over to Sean and Ashley's house to see our new granddaughter and Andrew too. We were planning to drive there on Thursday, get a motel room, and visit with the baby on Thursday afternoon and evening, Friday and Saturday before driving home on Sunday. It was all dependent on the weather which didn't cooperate.
It turned out the weather forecast was awful for the days we planned on driving. Thursday was lake effect snow all across New York State from Buffalo to Rochester to Syracuse to Utica and easing up around Albany. Then on Sunday when we planned to drive back to Buffalo the weather forecast was calling for rain the entire trip. Monday was going to be snow again.
The real serious problem for me has been my vision problems due to the aggressive cataracts that have really been affecting my eyesight recently. It's bad enough to drive under good conditions but with rain, sleet and snow... I just couldn't do it. So we decided to postpone our trip. It broke our hearts. We were thinking that we would need to wait a month to visit sometime in January after the Christmas holidays.
It was hard to make that phone call to Sean and tell him of our plans to postpone the trip but he understood. We had been talking to him about my vision issues. I've also been having back and spine issues which makes it hard to drive for a long time.
We really want to see and hold that new baby and we want to see Andrew too. We want to see his interactions and love for his new baby sister. Of course we want to see the new parents too. Our plan was to stay at the motel down the street from their home. It would just make everything easier for them and we could come and go. That is the plan but we don't want to wait until January which doesn't mean the weather will cooperate then either.
Now we are looking at the weather for next week and are hoping that we can drive over to Albany area on Wednesday. It is supposed to be good weather all the way across the state. Then we would stay through Thursday and then drive back home on Friday which is supposed to be sunny all day for the entire trip. Then it's back to snow for the weekend. We think that maybe we can get those couple of days to visit in there before the snow and the holidays.
