Tube Day - Mind the Gap - Day Three

On day three in London we got our cards for riding the subway after talking with the Monogram host who explained the system to us and we learned about the different color lines that would get us around London. We were going to spend the day riding the tube in the London underground. There was a station a block from our hotel where we got our cards from a machine.

Our first ride was to Westminster Abbey

which was really beautiful. There was a line to get in that was very long and very British like organized. There were dedicated monuments everywhere. The Abbey was a spectacular church with amazing rose windows and many interesting side chapels. One favorite was the Henry VII stone carved chapel ceiling.

Some of the really special sights were the tombs and in particular the Poets Corner and Becky was particularly happy with the Charles Dickens grave on the floor among many others.

We walked along the Embankment and marveled again at the weird low tides on the River Thames. We also enjoyed the Westminster Bridge. We saw the House of Parliament up close although we did not go in. This was stunning architecture.

Then we got back on the tube and rode over to the Tower of London and the London Tower Bridge area. It was kind of a tourist trap but the views were spectacular. It was amazing to see the mix of modern and medieval architecture throughout the city and everything in between.

Then it was back on the tube and heading to the Holborn station in Bloomsbury and the British Museum.
