Edinburgh Day Two - Museums & Carlton Hill

Thursday September 5th was day two for us in Edinburgh. We slept a little late and then had a nice breakfast at our hotel and then it was off to the museums. Our first stop was the Scottish National Gallery a few blocks north of our hotel on The Mound. It was a very nice museum with a wonderful collection of paintings from medieval to impressionism. They had many famous paintings including the famous Niagara Falls by Frederick Church. Everything was very well presented.

There was another great building next to it that housed the Royal Academy which is a more contemporary gallery. We saw a very expansive show of Bridget Riley, an artist still living and working.

We walked around the area and explored the Mound including the Princes Street Gardens and the Edinburgh Farmer's Market. We enjoyed this area very much but then we continued walking down the Royal Mile. We stopped to check out St. Giles Cathedral, a gothic medieval church where John Knox used to preach.

We then walked over to Carlton Hill which is considered a world heritage site. There are many important government buildings and monuments on or near the hill which towers over the city. We climbed the windy hill and went up the steps. We were rewarded with stunning views and vistas. We took lots of pictures. It was an amazing walk among history.

On the way back towards the hotel we stopped for lunch at Biblos Dinner. We sat at a window with a nice view of the street activity and enjoyed a wonderful meal. I had a Tennent's Lager from Tennent's Caledonian Brewery. Afterward we walked back to the hotel for some needed rest.

When we were walking around the two museums we saw a robot lawn mower working it's way down a hill. Took a picture.
