We started day three in Edinburgh with our usual very nice hotel breakfast. I had kippers. Then we walked down to the other end of the Royal Mile. It was an interesting walk past many fascinating stores, restaurants, pubs, museums and other sites. One interesting place was Oink, a fast food restaurant that specialized in roasted hog. The first place we stopped in was the Museum of Edinburgh which is a small house containing artifacts related to the town's origins, history and legends. We especially liked the collection of decorative arts throughout the rooms. We also stopped at the St. Giles Cathedral again which was spectacular.
We continued walking down the street and passed the Scottish Parliament building which had a very modern architecture design that looked strangely
out of place among all the nearby historic buildings. Very close by was the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Holyrood Abbey. The palace was very beautiful and very British with many rooms with tapestries, old beds and paintings. We took a tour that was mainly devoted to the story of Mary Queen of Scots who had a lot of drama swirling around her.On the way back to the hotel we stopped for lunch at the Cafe Edinburgh where we had some wonderful paninis sandwiches.
