Edinburgh Day Two - Meat Pies & Pubs

We had researched places to eat a head of time and on this second day in Edinburgh we wanted to check out a nearby French restaurant La Garrigue. When we got there the restaurant was open but dark and quiet. There was nobody sitting at any table. We changed our minds and went looking for another place to get dinner.

We walked back toward the Royal Mile where it was very busy and looked at several pubs and restaurants before deciding on The Mitre Pub. They had a special menu item for meat pies which we wanted to try. It turns out they were also part of the Nicolson's Freehouse group of British pubs. It was crowded and we had to wait for a table. We went to the bar and a young man got up from his barstool and offered it to Becky. Very nice. After a bit we got our table. We had the meat pies and they were very good. There was plenty of traditional food at this pub. I also had a cask pint of Nicolson's Pale Ale and a cask pint of Doom Bar English Bitter from Sharp's Brewery.

After dinner we walked down High Street toward our hotel and decided on one more pub for a nightcap. We stopped at the pub across the street from the hotel... Deacon Brodies Tavern which is another traditional pub with lots of history. It was a very happening place with a guy outside playing bagpipes.

I had another cask pint. A Peaky Blinder Black IPA from Sadler's Ale. Becky had a lager. After that we called it a night and went back to our room. It was going to be another busy day tomorrow.
