Becky and I thought we would be having a nice quiet New Year's Eve alone as usual. In past years we had been going out to dinner early in the evening and then got home before the partying began in earnest around town. We would then watch the CNN New Year's Eve show taking place at Times Square. Of course the past couple of years we've stayed home because of the pandemic and would have a nice little meal in front of the TV.
This year we unexpectedly had Katie, Todd and kids here because they had stayed an extra day because of the storm over the past week. So they left the downtown hotel and spent the last night with us before driving home on New Year's Day morning. They all went to bed somewhat early too so Becky and I did have our quiet New Year's Eve night.
However, it wasn't what we expected because for some strange reason CNN with it's new management decided to have a alcohol free show and banned the co-hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen from drinking any booze which of course was always a big part of their annual event. They tried to liven things up and even drank some mystery non-alcohol cocktails like apple cider vinegar, pickle juice and other surprise concoctions but the show was boring. One of the best moments of the night was when a comedian guest mocked and vulgarly lambasted CNN for their refusal to let the hosts drink any alcohol.
Later social media made fun of CNN all night bashing the network's drinking policy. We ended up turning off CNN long before midnight.
