Tappo Italian

Tappo has been one of our favorite restaurants since its opening in 2013. We started going there right away because it was being operated by Mike A. who has been responsible for a couple other of our favorite restaurants in town including Seabar.

This Italian restaurant opened up down the street from Seabar on Ellicott Street in downtown Buffalo. It is very affordable and has great food. It also has a wonderful wine selection in addition to a great location. We also love the decor which might be called industrial chic with lots of brick. It's very comfortable and spacious at the same time.

I can't count how many times we've been there over the years. Sometimes with large groups, sometimes with our family and sometimes just Becky and me. Sunday evenings have been great with their dinner and wine specials. Always good. We go there for special occasions and also just for a quick bite to eat while doing something downtown. We like going there with out of town guest too.

Another plus was when Big Ditch Brewery opened across the street and now we had an added reason for heading down to Ellicott Street. There have been many times when we've been to Tappo for dinner and then went over to Big Ditch for a couple of draft beers. Mike A. left Tappo but the food and service is still wonderful.

In 2019 Tappo expanded by adding Tappo Pizza to the Thin Man Brewery location on Chandler Street.

A few years ago created a dinning and bar experience on their roof which has been a big success. The rooftop beer garden is very nice. Then they added igloos for winter dining on the roof. They have been a very successful lunch restaurant for the downtown worker crowd and also the comfortable bar in the front of the building attracts a large daily happy hour crowd.

We are looking forward to getting back down there again after the pandemic.
