Our Vaccine Shots

Today Becky and I received our first covid-19 vaccine shots. We made the appointment online four weeks ago through New York State and our vaccination site was on the UB South Campus which of course we are both very familiar with. The shots were given at Harriman Hall and there was a special parking lot for the vaccination site.

We were very pleased about how smooth and efficient the entire process was today. There was adequate signage and instructions began as we entered the designated parking lot. We were told to go the the building where the shots were given about five minutes before our appointment time.

There was a state trooper at the door who checked our names on a clipboard for the appointment time. We needed our paperwork including our medical cards and photo ID. We were checked again inside and shown to a table where a person went over our paperwork in more detail. From there we went down a hallway and stood in a very short line that took just a few minutes for us to get to the front. The line ended in a room full of tables where nurses were giving shots. There were actually two lines with one for the first shots and another for second shots which was much shorter.

After a few minutes we went to separate tables for our shots which only took another few minutes after checking the paperwork again. We got our shots and also vaccine cards with our appointment scheduled for the second shots. Ours would be in three weeks on March 8th at the same time.

We then went to another room that was designated for a 15 minute recovery period sitting in socially distant chairs. We also noticed that whenever a person left the chairs someone came over and sprayed the chairs. That also occurred everywhere we interacted with staff. Each table we were at was wiped down and even the pens we used to sign paperwork. All of the staff people were very friendly and caring. The entire experience was positive and satisfying.

After our 15 minute waiting period we left and went back to the car and drove home. The entire process from the time we walked out of our house and until we went back in was just a little over an hour.

Now we're looking forward to completing the process in three weeks.
