Trattoria Moma with Friends

I had contacted our friend Margie last week about going out to dinner while we were in town. We had missed her and Joe the last time we went out with our Germantown friends for dinner at the Blue Bell Inn. They were sick at the time. So we talked about different places and they wanted to go to Trattoria Moma which is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Actually from the neighborhood right up on Germantown Avenue a few blocks from Katie's house. They like coming down to Chestnut Hill and Mt Airy from their home in the Northeast.

Becky and I went there for a nice dinner a couple of years ago and I wrote about it here. It was a Wednesday and they had there special pre-fix dinner and we sat outside on the patio. It was very nice.

So Becky and I walked over there and met them there. Coincidently it was also a Wednesday night and they had their pre-fix dinner special. We got to the restaurant about ten minutes before they arrived. Trattoria Moma is a BYOB place and Margie said they would bring a couple of bottles of wine, a red and a white. We decided to not do the pre-fix and just ordered off the regular menu.

The restaurant is fine Italian dining with an emphasis on the food of Southern Italy and Northern Italy with a modern take. The owner and chef is from Croatia.

We opened with an antipasti timballo which we had never heard of but was highly recommended by Joe, Margie's Italian husband. It was delicious mix of sliced roasted eggplant, stuffed with goat cheese, roasted peppers and artichokes topped with fig balsamic. I had a wonderful fettucinne beef bolognese. Everyone had something amazing. Joe and I drank most of the bottle of red wine.

At the end of the meal we had half of the bottle of white wine left and a little bit of the red. Margie and Joe wanted us to take the wine home. The waitress gave us a wine carrier to take home the wine since she knew we were walking. Apparently a lot of people leave behind wine tote bags and they have a pile of them in the back.

Margie and Joe were parked across the street. We walked them to their car and then Becky and I headed down Germantown Avenue. We had a very nice walk back to Katie's house. The kids had just gone to bed.

The following evening we babysat for the kids while Katie and Todd went down to Trattoria Moma for dinner. We have done that for them several times over the years. I first wrote about our experiences at Trattoria Moma here in 2021.
