Tonight Becky and I went out to dinner at Roost on Niagara Street. This would be our third time there this past year or so. We've always enjoyed the dinners. Sean and Ashley got us a gift certificate to the restaurant for Xmas. We were originally planning to go last night because we go out to dinner more on Thursday nights than the weekend nights but it was rainy and kind of nasty weather predicted so we made the reservation for Friday evening at 6:15 pm. We got there around 6 and our table was ready. It was a table for two in the back area of the dining room that we had been seated before. It's a nice spot except for the large nearby table used for large parties which was empty at the time we got there but not for long.
We had another wonderful meal. We ordered a large Spicy Wedge salad which was delicious but there were some sliced hot peppers in the mix and I inadvertenly ate a couple right away. It was hot and I felt the heat in my mouth very intensely. Apparently the peppers had the seeds too. Well, I was very careful with the salad after that and loved it. But left a few peppers on the plate.
Roost always serves some of the best gourmet pizzas in town. Tonight we had a great pepperoni pizza with the best crust ever. I had a couple of Jack Abby Pilsners on tap too.
So there was a really large crowd at the group table next to us and some of the people were standing around talking and having drinks. Two other couples sitting at other tables alongside the group table asked to be reseated somewhere else and ended up sitting at the bar for their meal. Our table was at the very end of the area and we were the least bothered by the group. I overhead that the group had gathered at that table for a retirement party. There were probably about twenty people in the group so it was very noisy.
We had great waitress service but it was sometimes difficult for her to make her way through the crowd to our table. We made the best of the situation but in the future we will ask for a table not along that group area. There are several nice tables for two along the window on the river side of the restaurant.
There is some money left on the gift card so we will back sometime soon. We do really like going there despite that crowded nearby table. When we were leaving and making our way through the group of people there were about six of them that apologized to say there were sorry about any inconvenience to us which was very nice. They had seen that we had been sitting there before their group showed up for the party. We joked about it with our waitress, who also waited on this group, and we assured her that the next time we were there we would sit at one of those nice window tables.
