So who did I vote for those times I didn't vote Democrat? The Green Party, The Working Families Party and maybe a couple others over the years. I also refused to vote for any candidate that was in the Democrat line and also listed in the Republican line. Any candidate whatsoever that had an endorsement from the Republican Party did not get my vote for moral reasons.
I grew up with the Democrat Party. Both my parents were Kennedy Democrats in the 1960's and my mother was a committeewoman for many years. As a teenager I participated in anti-war student demonstrations and I guess I considered myself a leftist in the late 1960's but it didn't stop me from enlisting in the Navy in late 1969. It was my exposure to Southern culture and racism while in the Navy that cemented my left leaning tendencies along with seeing many other countries around the world. Later in the 1970's I volunteered for several organizations including Mobilization For Survival and the Keystone Alliance that were mostly focused on anti-nuclear issues at the time.
Over the years I've gotten to the point where I consider the Democrat Party to be politically moderate and middle of the road. I would proudly consider myself now to be a Democratic Socialist a communitarian who believes in a community taking care of each other regardless of race, immigration status and economic situation.
