Between The World and Me

Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, 2015
Read in April 2016

This was an extraordinary and important book that gave me a new understanding of our nation's history and the current problems concerning race relations in our country. A classic.

He explores what it is like to live in a black body in America and the place of a black person in the world. It goes from a personal narrative to a re-imagined history that illuminates the past, confronts the present and offers a way forward. He does this by using the concept of a loving letter to his son.

He asserts that violence against black people is an American legacy and tradition. We are need to understand that nothing has changed and these issues are not going away.
