Our old television has been dying a very slow death for several months. I wrote about our need for a new TV here. It has been time for awhile and today we finally went out and got one at Best Buy. It seemed to really take some prodding from our grandson who thought it was hilarious to watch the distorted faces even thought it was only temporary. There was more going on than just the crazy distorted lines. Sometimes the television would just turn off by itself like it was saying I've had enough. Replace me please.
We did our research and looked at some tv sets online. We wanted to stay within the same size range but now we would be getting a smart TV with an upgraded picture quality. We had a good experience at the store and talked with a very knowledgeable sales person who happened to be from London. We had some nice conversations about our travels and his in addition to talking about televisions.
We came home with a new Samsung 43" QLED TV model Q60a. I had it set up in about an hour and then spent some time programming it for use with our FireTV and the apps we use especially Sling TV. The picture is amazing although we did need to tone down the contrast a little bit. It was almost too bright.
The remote will take a little bit of time getting used to as will the layout of home screen. The manual is available on the tv and I also downloaded a copy to my laptop. I'll spend some time learning some of the finer points.
The sound system from our previous television will not work with this new smart tv. It doesn't have the analog sound connections that our old set used. The speakers and receiver just won't work with this new tv which wants to use Bluetooth speakers or devices with the earc connections and/or soundbar. I'll talk to Dave about the sound issues. Right now we are using the built in speakers which are not bad but having a soundbar will be a big improvement.
I also want to get rid of the extra speakers we have around the room that were part of the old system that we never really used much anyway. It might be time now to reconsider our first floor sound system.
