It's the evening of the 4th of July and I'm sitting in the backyard sunroom drinking an 8 Days A Week blonde ale from Southern Tier Brewing, listening to some live soul music and writing about the music of 1971. Becky and I had a quiet day putting things together for our upcoming trip to the Adirondacks with the kids.
This time last year we had driven up to Long Lake on July 4th and were able to catch the fireworks on the lake. That was the first time we had actually been up there on the 4th. Last year I wrote about that 4th of July on the road here.
Yesterday evening we got together with Dave and Donna at their house with Mary, Tom & Diane, Eric & Amy and their little 15 month old Ivy. We had a great time and Dave & Donna prepared a wonderful meal. We were there from 4pm until 9pm. Because of Covid there was a much smaller crowd than usual at there home for this holiday. We also had some fun talking about the Sonny name which of course we are all getting used to.
There is still a lot of Covid fear and caution. Most of the official fireworks in the area have been cancelled. We did the thing last night and that is about it. We'll save ourselves for next week in the Adirondacks.
