Another crime novelist on my authors list is James Ellroy with 12 books that I've read. One book, My Dark Places, was a biographic memoir by the author. The first novel I read by James Ellroy was The Black Dahlia in 1994 and then I read a couple more in the L.A. Quartet series the following months.
I really enjoyed his books. They went beyond the traditional classic crime noir fiction into something different, something new with a unique postmodern prose style. I really liked Brian DePalma's film of The Black Dahlia too.
There are a few more of his novels that I should put on my to-read list.
