The Time Regulation Institute by Ahmed Hamdi Tampinar, 1954
Read this in February 2015.
I came across this English translation of the classic Turkish novel in the Canisius College Library and decided to check it out after reading about it. Although written in 1954 the first English translation was in 2001 and this particular translation was published in 2013. The library added this book to the collection in 2014.
The novel is presented as a memoir and is a satiric discussion of the use of time and modernism in Turkish and Middle Eastern literature and culture. It was an interesting portrayal of friendships, family relations and public figures in a Turkish society striving to become modern. I found the book very fascinating in it's strangeness and in its descriptions of old Istanbul.
