Rocked Me On The Water - Decade 2

Rocked Me On The Water - Decade 2. Music from the early 70's that rocked me on the water while I was in the Navy during that time period. Many of the albums I was buying during this time were on the new media of prerecorded cassette tape. I was buying tapes because they were easier to manage on board ship especially during high seas when a record player just didn't work well. I also did not have a work space that I could set up a stereo with a record player so it was tapes for me. I think the first tape I got was George Harrison's All Things Must Pass.

  1. Randy Newman - Sail Away (Sail Away, 1972)

The First Time - Songs 1969

Songs 1969.  This is a quieter set. Who can forget the first time hearing the wonderful voice of Roberta Flack on her first album First Take. The Dusty in Memphis album was a revelation just as hearing the new singing voice of Bob Dylan that first time on his Nashville Skyline album.

It was nice to hear another great song from George Harrison on a Beatles album. It's also hard to believe that Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin song got so much radio airplay. Lots of wonderful folk music in this set too. Closes with an all time great reggae song from Jimmy Cliff.

Uncontrollable Urge - Decade 3

I got this uncontrollable urge to listen to some punk/new wave music from the late 70's to mid 80's which is of course coming from that third decade of rock n' roll.

I quickly put together a series of mixes from that era that focuses on my record collection. There is a lot of music from that time that will never show up on any of my mixes. I was working as a DJ during much of this period so playing crowd pleasing stuff was part of what I was doing but I also never played a lot of music that some people think defined the era. Well, maybe for them but not for me. Decade 3 Uncontrollable Urge starts off with some fun punk moves on to some New Wave,
